Arthur Farley was Station Officer at Gosport during the 1970's.
Arthur Farley started his working life as a Bakers van boy! He joined the Ambulance Service at Gosport and was Head Driver (in charge of Gosport Station), prior to amalgamation in 1974.
When the new rank-structure was introduced in 1976, he became Rank 7 (Sub-officer) in charge of Potsea Ambulance Station. This was an interim arrangement implemented to satisfy the promotional criteria at that time.
Arthur then returned to Gosport after a very short period as Rank 6 Station Officer.
In 1961, as an Ambulanceman, he attended a call, to a child pulled from the sea at Lee-on-Solent. As a consequence of his actions, he was awarded the Royal Life Saving Societies 'Certificate of Resuscitation' for saving the life of the young boy.
